A traffic stop today in Harrisburg led to the arrest of a Brooklyn man who's accused of transporting between 900 and 1,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes from Greensboro, N.C. to Brooklyn.
Just after 11 a.m., a state police trooper pulled over Ali Mohamed, 39, in his Toyota minivan on Interstate 81 north near Cameron Street. Troopers discovered the cigarettes after searching the vehicle, police said.
The cigarettes' street value in Pennsylvania would be about $41,000, and in New York about $78,000, police said.
State police turned over the investigation to the state Department of Revenue's bureau of criminal tax investigations, which charged Mohamed with sales of unstamped cigarettes and possession of unstamped cigarettes.
